Book signing by author and illustrator Deborah Kaskinen Crandell featuring her new book, Sisu, Not Just Another Pretty Cat

It centers around the old Finnish legend of White Cats, which said that if you look deep into the eyes of a white cat, you may see other magical places. When Sisu runs away from home, the reader travels with her to see other lands illustrated in acrylic paintings.

Work on the book began during the pandemic of 2019 when the author questioned what cultural beliefs carried ancient civilizations through their own epidemics, famine and more. This book is the first of a series meant to inspire children of all ages to remember their Sisu or inner strength, and to preserve ancient myths from a language said to date back as far as 4,000 years.
