Description

Drawing is at the core of everything that we do as visual artists. Drawing often is its own thing, and the means to its own end. It is always an important step in creating other work such as paintings, sculpture, and even installations. Also is an endless amount that we can learn about our world and the people around us by simply drawing.

In this class we will explore the different reasons we draw and discover some new ones, including the use of watercolor wash to add color. We will look at the many ways that we can make marks on our paper to express what we need to say about our subject. 

We will also check out some drawings of famous artists that have gone before us and try our hand at some different drawing mediums.

This class is designed for the artist that wants to find out what we can learn when we really look and start to push our limits.

Materials will be provided although you should bring:

  • Sketchbook
  • Drawing pencils

In the event that class is canceled due to weather a make up session will be scheduled for March 21.

Richie recently moved to Traverse City from Atlanta, Georgia. He enjoys rambling in the woods, snooping around stream beds, and searching for Petoskey stones with his family. Richie has a master’s degree in Architecture from the Savannah College of Art and Design where he also studied illustration, painting, and photography. He is a generalist, seeking to learn a little bit about everything and loves discussing art and the creative drive. 

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Traverse City Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
In the event of inclement weather, CTAC-TC will announce the cancellation on its website and phone system (231-941-9488). We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Please note that CTAC-TC does not follow Traverse City Area Public School closings.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
