    Description

Learn how to make fused glass art that is both decorative and functional. Beginning with a lesson about multiple ways to make cabochons, students will create a colorful variety of small fused glass pieces that can then be used to make items of their choice: pendants, rings, earrings, pins, magnets, wine stopper, buttons, drawer pulls, barrettes, keyrings. Instruction will include use of tools, information about different types of glass and adhesives. Material fee covers glass, firing and adhesive. Students will be responsible for purchasing blanks that the fused glass cabachon will be set into.  These pieces will not be needed until the second glass.  Susan will share a variety of options and information on where to purchase locally or online.

Examples of fused glass projects using a cabachon

January 13: 2 hours - Learn cabochon techniques, make a variety of cabochons
January 20: 2 hours - Break fired pieces to create smaller cabochons. Assemble other completed cabochons to create items. Students are welcome to create more cabochons to include in the 2nd firing.
January 27: 1.5 hours - Continue to use cabochons to create finished pieces.

Some projects may require and additional firing fee. For example, if making barrettes, an additional material fee for slump firing is $5.

    No prior experience required.
