Description

Join Lost and Found:Juried Photo exhibit photographer for an in-depth exploration of a manual camera.  Learn fundamental skills to make the most of your manual camera.

Whether you use a digital or film camera, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and light are the main tools you have to make creative, and accurate exposures. This two-day workshop is designed to demystify your camera settings and give you an understanding of how to use them to create striking images.

 The first session will consist of a morning lecture that explains the basic functions of your camera and gives some simple compositional considerations to guide you in making successful photographs. The afternoon will be spent photographing, and having questions answered about your individual camera and its settings. Any camera that has manual controls is suitable for this workshop. 

 The second session (a week later) will be a follow up, where the class will view and critique the images you made in the previous week. In this session, you will also have more time to ask questions about the concepts you have learned, and about your camera.

Emily J. Gómez is originally from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She earned a B.A. in Fine Arts with a concentration in photography from Loyola University Chicago, and an MFA with Distinction from the University of Georgia. She served as the staff photographer for a Metropolitan Detroit Newspaper, the Spinal Column Newsweekly, for five years and as the Professor of Photography at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia for fifteen. Currently, she is co-owner, with her husband Ernesto, of East Twin Studios, LLC in Lewiston, Michigan.

Among her accomplishments are a National Endowment for the Arts Grant for a Distinguished Fellowship at the Hambidge Center for the Creative Arts and Sciences, and published photographs in the books Platinum and Palladium Photographs: Technical History, Connoisseurship, and Preservation, as well as Platinotype: Making Photographs in Platinum and Palladium with the Contemporary Printing-Out Process by Pradip Malde with Mike Ware. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Zuckerman Museum of Art in Kennesaw, Georgia.

 

 

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Traverse City Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
In the event of inclement weather, CTAC-TC will announce the cancellation on its website and phone system (231-941-9488). We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Please note that CTAC-TC does not follow Traverse City Area Public School closings.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
