Learn how Louise Pond paints plein air in the medium of pastels. Her demo painting begins with explaining how she finds that scene that speaks to her in a few different areas, a very direct relation between the lightest lights and darkest shadows. Louise loves the drama of chiaroscuro, where light peeks in and draws the eye through the landscape.
Louise paints directly, laying in a vague drawing and then diving in with both feet, bold strokes as she lets the process take her on the journey. Not all paintings turn out, but when they do, it can be magic. A plein air piece is either won or lost within a 3 hour window, after that the sun has moved 45 degrees and the scene changes too much. Louise paints in the studio, but her joy is in painting from life, being present as nature unfolds.
Louise will demonstrate in Hannah Park next to CTAC. CTAC will provide folding chairs. If you would prefer a camp chair, please feel free to bring it. The demonstration will move inside to the classroom if the weather is not appropriate.
