Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our August 2020 Paint Grand Traverse plein air painting festival. We will gather again in celebration of art when we can do so safely and responsibly. In the meantime, we are hard at work creating virtual art experiences and connections and dreaming up future PGT events and other innovative new programs. We’re excited about the future of Paint Grand Traverse, and grateful for our volunteers, artists, collectors, guests, home hosts, and sponsors. Stay in touch for news about our future events!
The Grand Traverse region is located in northwest lower Michigan, and is known the world over for its gorgeous scenery, hundreds of miles of Lake Michigan coast, and historic small towns and villages. The largest of these, Traverse City, is nestled on the southern shore of West Grand Traverse Bay, and is home to Crooked Tree Arts Center - Traverse City.
WHAT IS PLEIN AIR PAINTING?
From the French en plein air, or "in open air", plein air artists work outside, in natural lighting conditions, capturing the ephemeral atmospheric and lighting conditions.
