Description

Perfect for the armchair traveler, those planning a trip to Southern France, or people who simply want a little taste of art history and French culture! 

This destination-based art history workshop provides the art-enthusiast/traveler with an introduction to the geography and visual art of the Provence/Cote d’ Azur region of southeastern France. The workshop will cover key visual artists like Cezanne, Van Gogh, Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Renoir, and others who lived and/or worked in the Provence/Cote d'Azur region of France. We will cover the relevant geography: Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Avignon, Nimes, Cassis, La Ciotat, Antibes, and Nice), including key architectural sites within, or nearby, those cities/villages, as well as some discussion of wine, food, and performing arts unique to the region. A sampling of regional wine and appetizers will be provided to give registrants a true taste of the region.

Jim Shrier received his BA from Albion College where he majored in both Visual Arts and Economics. He continued his art studies at the IAU College in Aix-en-Provence, France. He has served on Crooked Tree Arts Center’s Board of Directors, Visual Arts Committee, and Finance Committee.

Prior to joining the American Impressionist Society as their first full-time paid Executive Director, Liz was the Executive Director/President of the Crooked Tree Arts Center (CTAC) of Petoskey and Traverse City, Michigan. 

Liz has been active in a number of organizations including serving as President of the Board of Directors of the Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce in 2012  and of the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2008. She has been a board member of many organizations including Petoskey Downtown Management Board, Rotary Club of Petoskey and Leadership Little Traverse. She was appointed by Governor Snyder to serve on the board of directors and Executive Committee of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs in 2011 and continues to serve today. Liz formerly served as a board member of ArtServe Michigan and the Michigan State University College of Arts and Letters Alumni Board. Liz received the Athena Award in December of 2014 for her dedication to the community and her work in the non-profit sector.  

Liz holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from Spring Arbor University and Certificate in Fundraising Management from Indiana University School of Philanthropy. She earned her undergraduate degree in Humanities from Michigan State University in 1984. 

Cancellation & Class Policies

COVID-19 Policy for Classes (after 4/1/22)

The following COVID-19 related policies are in place for classes that begin after April 1, 2022:

Face Coverings (updated 4/1/22)
As of April 1 and in accordance with the lifting of the mask recommendation by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, masks are not required for CTAC classes that begin after April 1*. However, should COVID-19 pandemic conditions change, CTAC will continue to follow local/state health department guidelines on masking, and will update class registrants via email and our website accordingly in the event of a change in requirements.

*Some classes may still require masking, and that will be noted clearly in the class description.

Illness
Students who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or who have recently tested positive should not come to class, and should follow the CDC guidelines on quarantining and masking.

Symptoms of Covid-19 include: Fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fatigue; muscle or body aches; headache; loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; diarrhea.

Sanitation
Students and instructors should sanitize their hands upon class arrival and departure. Hand sanitizer and surface disinfectant will be available onsite.

 

Cancellation Policy for Petoskey Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
When Public Schools of Petoskey are closed due to inclement weather, CTAC-Petoskey classes are canceled. We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Workshops and one-time classes will be handled on a per-class basis. School of Ballet students are asked to make up the missed class in an alternate session approved by their instructor.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
