      Description

Husband and wife artists Robert and Susan Perrish have distinctly different artistic voices, but both painters take a romanticist approach to contemporary subjects. Through rich colors, intricate details, and beautifully rendered light and shadow, idyllic rural scenes of Michigan and fanciful depictions of the figure reimagine our world as something full of wonder and dream-like possibilities.

        Description

Michigan: An American Portrait reenvisions the PBS documentary film of the same name as a dynamic art and culture exhibition.

In 2014, Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey partnered with Crouse Entertainment and the Duncan Group to support the production of the film. This summer, Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey is premiering a newly curated exhibition inspired by the documentary. The exhibition looks at the history, people, and natural environment of the state of Michigan to explore relationships between place, identity, and the human experience. Original works of art by Michigan artists, didactic text, and clips from the film will be on display. Weekly public lectures and community-based collaborative educational programs deepen the experience.
