MODERN MOVEMENT: MARTHA GRAHAM AND BARBARA MORGAN
Showcasing one of the largest public collections of original Barbara Morgan photographs in the country, Modern Movement features black and white images of Graham and her dance company from the 1930s and 40s. Best known for the vibrancy of her dance photographs, Morgan's choice of abstract photographic styles set her apart from the preponderance of American documentary photographers of the mid-1930s. Equally characteristic of her diverse work is her ability to capture ephemeral gesture, coining her as Graham's primary photographer of some of her most famous and recognized choreographic work.
The exhibit is part of a celebration by Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey of the Martha Graham Dance Company’s 100th anniversary as America’s oldest active dance company. Learn more about Dance Legends: Little Traverse Bay Celebrates Graham100.
