Why birds? “Mama Love” (The title for her exhibited works) is about taking care of the world and each other. Every living thing was once somebody’s baby. Every parent wants what’s best for their children. Birds are a way of making my heart visible. They represent the possibility and importance of extending love and compassion to all species. Human impact extends beyond ourselves. Birds also remind me of the beauty in the world. To be grateful. Look up. Pause. Notice the beauty. Protect it.
A little about me. I'm a mixed media artist exploring the intersection of nature, the environment and human decision making. My work is deeply personal. My tools for seeing, understanding and sharing are my paintbrush, scissors and glue. All of the birds in this show have been created from my own hand painted papers. Most of my canvases were gifted to me by a friend whose mother was an artist. Her work is underneath mine. I love feeling held up and supported by Sally. I've left her writing on the backs.
With a PhD in Adult Education, and having worked in the environmental and educational fields for over 30 years. I'm actively involved in both climate change work and in leading creativity workshops and retreats focused on taking care of yourself through art and nature.
