Kurt Anderson
Kurt Anderson is a Harbor Springs–based artist known for his plein-air landscapes and has been a resident of the community since 1993. He served Northern Michigan for 33 years as a physician assistant at McLaren Hospital, balancing a full medical career with a lifelong dedication to art. Largely self-taught, Anderson began painting in 1995 and later studied with nationally recognized instructors at Crooked Tree Arts Center, where he now teaches. Working in acrylic, watercolor, oil, and pastel, his work has been featured in national plein air festivals, earned the Artist’s Choice Award at Paint Grand Traverse, and reflects his hope to share moments of calm and connection with viewers.
Anderson’s featured oil painting captures serenity and movement through a cascade of water and stone. “When I saw this spot during a hike on a monthlong road trip — this peaceful, rippling water coming toward us — I was completely taken in,” Anderson said. “Painting it brought me back to that moment of peace. My hope is that viewers feel that same sense of calm.”
