Artist Kelly Ingleright-Telgenhoff has several pieces currently on display in CTAC-Petoskey's galleries. Her classic representational approach to depicting common still-life objects merges with surrealist elements and symbols to create a sense of mystery, confusion, and intrigue. This conversation will explore the artist's work and influences.

    About the Artist

Kelly Ingleright is interested in the intersection of abstraction and realism in her large oil, encaustic, or mixed media landscapes, still life paintings, and nonrepresentational paintings and sculpture. The tension of the symbolic and the literal, as well as abstract and real, provides an interesting and challenging place to dwell. Sometimes her work feels surreal, other times it might fall into the realism category, and at times she works in an abstract experimental fashion with materials like wool, packing material, and clay. There is a simplicity to her work that hovers near sophistication and moodiness, producing a type of calm tranquility or serenity through the use of vast areas of space. Her works often draw reference to the Great Lakes region and the Southwest as she has lived in both areas and finds great meaning in nature regarding these two vastly different ecologies.
