Description

Nature journaling will help deepen your observational and drawing skills. You will engage nature in a richer, more enduring way by recording what your senses tell you with words, pictures, and numbers.

The first session will focus on keeping a nature journal and how to record observations in one. We will create accordion-style booklets together to use as our nature journals. Basic pen and drawing techniques will be taught, but the emphasis is less on precise drawing, and more on good observations, questions, and anything else you would like to add to your pages The second session will focus on adding color to our observations using colored pencils and watercolor.

Locations: Crooked Tree Art Center-Traverse City and Hannah Park. Please come dressed for the weather. In case of inclement weather, we will have the class inside.

All levels welcome.  Tuition includes materials.

Judy Kelly is an artist and a naturalist. She has been drawing since high school. As a former biology teacher, she encouraged her students to personally engage with their natural surroundings. Her parents encouraged her early passion for art while growing up on a farm in southeast Michigan. From the time she took her first watercolor class at the age of 12, she was hooked. Her path to fame began in high school when she designed and painted a 4’ by 8’ mural for the local elementary school. Over the years she has continued enhancing her artistic skills by taking numerous workshops.

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Traverse City Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
In the event of inclement weather, CTAC-TC will announce the cancellation on its website and phone system (231-941-9488). We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Please note that CTAC-TC does not follow Traverse City Area Public School closings.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
