Level I students, with no prior painting experience or those who would like a refresher course, will be introduced to the basics of working with oil paint. Emphasis will be placed on materials, color mixing and color theory, paint applications, and composition. Students will create their own paintings while exploring different painting styles of their favorite artists. It is advisable, but not mandatory, to have taken Basic Drawing as a prerequisite to this class.
Level II students will identify and explore ideas and abilities in painting by examining the context of modern and contemporary works. Emphasis will be placed on the role of professional quality studio practices in realizing student painting goals. Level II students should be at least familiar with painting materials, principals and elements of design, and basic color theory as a prerequisite to this class.
This is a 9-week class.
