Description

Bring your coffee, a good attitude, and have fun exploring this innovative approach to learning painting!

Spend a couple of fun days exploring the unique attributes of acrylic: vibrant colors, rich textures, expressive brushwork. All are easily achieved in acrylic. Below is an abbreviated agenda for both days.

Day 1 of this online workshop students will work from provided reference material. Spencer will demonstrate step-by-step his approach to designing, developing, and finishing a painting. Students will paint along as Spencer describes his approach to creating a painting.

Day 2 begins with a recap of the previous day. Spencer will again lead students through the process of designing and developing a painting. In each session, emphasis will be placed on value, color, design and brushwork to create successful paintings. 

Soft-spoken in his critical analysis of each student's work, Spencer builds student confidence by pointing out the strengths and weaknesses in each piece and by offering suggestions for improvement.

This class is appropriate for all skill levels.

Spencer Meagher first discovered his love for art as a young child - he found he was able to express himself through drawing and painting. He refined his skills over the decades with practice and dedication. As an adult, he has attended many workshops to gain a better understanding of his craft. Spencer now paints full-time and travels all over the country, attending competitions and shows, as well as teaching workshops. Spencer is a plein air and studio artist who works in watercolor, oil, and acrylic. When he is not traveling, he works out of his studio in Mt. Vernon, IL. 
 
Spencer’s work has taken top awards in art competitions around the country and has been exhibited in many notable galleries. His paintings have been featured in publications such as Plein Air Magazine and Plein Air Today. He has also been mentioned in numerous online articles.
 
Spencer has studied with renowned artists Alvaro Castagnet, Graham Berry, John P. Lasater IV, Joseph Fettingis, Lon Brauer, M. Shawn Cornell, and Sterling Edwards.

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Virtual/Online Classes

Classes/Workshops/Demos that do not meet enrollment minimums will be canceled two days prior to the class start date.

All virtual class instructions will be recorded. If class is canceled or significantly interrupted due to technical difficulties or other instructor cancellation, CTAC will reschedule the session or provide alternate instruction at no additional cost to the student. Refunds will not be offered for a student who opts not to attend. If a student experiences technical difficulties or misses a virtual class for any reason, they can request a link to the missed class recording.
