Being outside in a nature seems to remedy my frazzled thoughts. Out there I am better able to sift through dozens of thoughts on what to create next and weave them together like a long braid. With my current artwork the theme of community and inclusion kept flowing in and then out. For decades I have worked with the female form and all it’s beauty. While that was wonderful, I wanted something different.
My abstracted landscape paintings come from my own slow experiences of hiking and canoeing in the northern United States. The endless shades of color that slip by in patches and swipes are mesmerizing during these quiet times. With my figurative sculptures, I am looking for that inner place that we all need, community.
Inspiration can come from different artists at different and unexpected times. From the lines of Andy Goldsworthy and the simplicity of Max Leiva to the words of poets like Billy Collins and Gwendolyn Patterson.
