Artist Profile
Sherry McNamara
Sherry began oil painting lessons at a young age in a private studio in the Detroit area. While raising a family, the oil paints were put away, but the mind and hands continued to work creatively with her children doing mosaics, coloring, and crafting.
When Sherry picked up the brush again, it was to rekindle her love of oil painting, which led to her work en plein air while continuing her studio work. That passion resulted in being selected for the juried show The Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes held at the Dennos Museum in 2013, and inclusion in the book, "The Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes: Transforming Nature into Art." In 2015, she received an Honorable Mention in the Bay Pointe Perspective Show for her painting "Battling Worry," and in 2016, she received an Honorable Mention for "A New Dawn-A New Hope." Additionally, she placed second at the Glen Arbor Art Center A Storm of Art show in 2016 for her painting "Resilience," an interpretation of life after the horrific 2015 Glen Arbor storm. In 2019, Sherry’s work was accepted by jury into the Northwest Michigan Regional Juried Exhibition held at the Dennos Museum. Her work is sold through Bella Galleria on Old Mission Peninsula.
Sherry's paintings are an expression of what she loves about Northern Michigan. They often include wide open vistas, lakes and streams, old barns, and trees. Sherry's intention is to represent the quiet moments of nature by bringing a sense of peace and calm to each painting. She hopes that others will share that experience when they look at her work; that they will lose themselves in the serenity of a moment caught in time.
