Artist Profile
Ragnar Avery
Ragnar has been shooting digital photography since 2009. He has chosen digital photography as an expression of his creativity and love for nature and beauty. You will see Ragnar’s photos exhibited in many of the local photography juried shows. He has been recognized with several awards for his photography in the area. Though Ragnar enjoys the pursuit of a variety of the photography disciplines, landscape photography continues to be the discipline for which he is most recognized.
Ragnar’s exposure to photography began at an early age. His father was a merchant marine officer and traveled the world collecting images on his camera. His father was passionate about photography for his entire life. Even in his later years, he enjoyed scouting out photography equipment in local garage sales and flea markets.
Ragnar had pursued photography as a hobby when his father was alive. They would compare notes on shooting medium format cameras like the Mamiya C220. Career and family pressures forced photography to go dormant for a number of years. A chance opportunity to meet and learn from famed landscape and nature photographer Tom Haxby rekindled Ragnar’s interest in photography. The digital camera opened up a whole new world of learning and exploration that would have been very challenging in the film days.
Now, Ragnar and his artist wife, Kristy, combine their love for travel and photography and take mini-expeditions to capture beautiful scenes in wonderful light.
