Artist Profile

Dorothea Sandra, EDAC

Dorothea Sandra is an international and national artist with a working art studio in Northern Michigan. She is with galleries in the U.S., Sweden, and France. Her recent sales include paintings to buyers in Michigan, Los Angeles, Belgium, France, Italy, and Hong Kong.

She is an evidence-based design certified artist who uses medically/scientifically based art strategies and guidelines for health and happiness, especially in her floral pieces. She is the author of the book 100 Days of Happy Happy Art, Evidence-Based Design. In 2024, the International Arts + Mind Lab, Center for Applied Neuroaesthetics, Pedersen Brain Science Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine interviewed her for her happy evidence-based design art. Healthcare Design Magazine featured her art in both 2024 and 2025.

Dorothea is also the creator of the Smart City Art Collection, which carries a meaningful message aimed at inspiring and educating the public about smart and sustainable cities of the future. She lived in Tokyo for 5 years, and for two of those years, she worked as an English rewriter for the anime/animation industry. She rewrote the English for a Studio Ghibli film, done by Hayao Miyazaki, before it got sold to Disney. In this project and hundreds of other projects, she had to study each anime/animation frame and make sure the translated dialogue sounded natural. Working so closely with such brilliant artists and their artwork, she believes their influence emerges in her SMART CITY collection of abstract artwork.

Dorothea Sandra is a happy, friendly artist who does an abundance of commission work.
