Elementary School

Prose:

   1st Place: “The Rage of the Dragon” by Calista Hoeksema – 5th Grade, Ellsworth Public School

   2nd Place: “My First Friend” by Grace Broz – 5th Grade, Central Elementary School

   3rd Place: “Operation Overlord” by Russell Vandermus – 5th Grade, St. Francis Xavier

   Honorable Mention: "The Time I Went Down the Hill" by Taryn Losee - 5th Grade, Charlevoix Elementary School 

Poetry:

17th Annual Young Writers Juried Exposition

Young writers who attend schools served by the Char-Em ISD (or home school students in Charlevoix or Emmet counties) may submit one work of poetry, prose, or one of both. Work must be submitted online, starting Tuesday, April 2, 2019 and ending on Friday, April 12, 2019. Student work needs to meet the following requirements:

  • Prose work may be fiction or non-fiction. All prose work is limited to 1,000 words or fewer, and must be titled.
     
  • All poetic forms are acceptable. All works of poetry are limited to 500 words or fewer, and must be titled.
     
  • All work must be submitted online by a teacher, principal, or parent no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 12.
     
  • All work must be submitted through the Crooked Tree Arts Center website.
     
  • All submitted work must be original.
     

The Young Writers Award Reception will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Crooked Tree Arts Center.  At the reception, the winning authors will have the opportunity to read their work publicly. Students, teachers, family, and friends are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served from 12:00 – 2:00 PM during the Culinary Arts Showcase presented by the Petoskey High School Hospitality Program. 

*More information about the 17th Annual Young Writers Exposition will be available in early 2019.*
