Rococo Society Featured Artist: Larissa Flynn
My current body of work is lifted from my daily Northern Michigan surroundings. Just things that catch my eye long enough to focus my attention to the present. On occasion I work from life, but mostly from recollection. Sometimes I'll jot a note or two on a random scrap of paper referencing place, color, mood, etc., to work from later. When I set myself down to execute my art it's a chance for me to relive a fleeting moment I was privileged to witness in the middle of work, commitments, struggles, and play. The birch bark that makes an appearance here and there is acquired by happenstance. The first piece that wandered into a composition was found along the path to my mailbox. When viewing my minimalist and simplistic drawings and paintings, I invite you to get lost in the negative space. Wander in and out of areas that are lost in translation. To stand still, take in the calm, breathe, relax, surrender, and connect....the same experience I have when I take notice of the subject I'm compelled to translate and share.
